A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the Ekiti State governorship primary, earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025, blaming the decision on logistics constraints.
The development was contained in a letter jointly signed by the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan.
Naijaonpoint reports that in the letter, the faction informed INEC that circumstances beyond its control made the conduct of the primary impossible on the earlier fixed date.
The letter read: “We wish to inform you that the PDP Ekiti State Congress and Governorship primary slated for November 8th, 2025, has been postponed due to logistics reasons constraining this exercise. A new date will be formally communicated when decided. Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards. Kindly refer to our earlier letter to the commission on this subject matter.”
The party gave no further details about the nature of the logistics challenges.
Reports indicate that the faction responsible for the shift is the group headed by Mohammed and Anyanwu, both of whom are widely seen as loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The decision adds another layer to the growing tension within the PDP, which has been grappling with leadership disputes, court orders, and factional activities ahead of key elections.
The faction assured INEC that a new date for the primary would be announced once internal preparations are completed.
