THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was originally set for October 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024.
This decision was made following a consultative meeting of the forum’s various organs, held yesterday at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, it was stated that ...ponement aims to ensure the party enters the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections on November 16, 2024, with the unity and strength necessary to “unseat the struggling All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state.”
The meeting also aimed to address disunity among party members.
“Emphasizing the importance of unity in light of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting urged all members to avoid divisive remarks that could hinder ongoing efforts to strengthen the party as the main opposition, in preparation for the2027 elections,” the communiqué noted.
Attendees included members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus, and the Forum of Former Governors of the party.
This meeting comes amid an internal crisis currently affecting the party.
The PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had suspended the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Ajibade.
In turn, Ologunagba and Ajibade suspended Damagum and Anyanwu, resulting in a deadlock that was eventually addressed by the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, called for a ceasefire and a return to the previous state of affairs after meeting with the conflicting party leaders.
