PDP in Imo Dismisses Defections, Says Party Remains Strong and Focused on Future Elections

Imo State – The recent flurry of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has sent shockwaves through political circles but the PDP says it is unshaken and more focused than ever.

In a statement released on Thursday, the party insisted that those leaving were never fully committed to its vision, and their exit actually strengthens the party from within.

“The individuals who left were chasing personal ambitions, not the people’s progress,” said PDP Imo State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku. He added that the party’s foundation of loyalty, discipline, and collective progress remains intact, and the departures are a chance to sharpen its focus and unify its members.

The PDP highlighted its recent grassroots engagement efforts as proof of its enduring influence in Imo, pointing to the highly successful Imo PDP Women Summit, which drew thousands of participants from across the state. “This is a party that connects with the people, especially women, and we are only growing stronger,” Obiaku said.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the PDP is already preparing internal primaries and strategic mobilization programs, aiming to secure its dominance in the state. Party leaders urged members to stay disciplined, engaged, and united at all levels, from wards to local government areas.

Political analysts say this response is PDP’s way of sending a clear message: “We are not intimidated by defections; we are energized by them.”
