The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, November 27, visited Niger State over the recent abduction of schoolchildren from the St Mary’s Catholic Church in Papari.
The leaders of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by the party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said they were in the state to sympathise with the Niger State government over the unfortunate incident.
Recall that some terrorists had launched an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Niger State where they abducted several students.
Describing the incident as a sad development, the party’s NWC said such an incident is a traumatic experience for the schoolchildren.
Received by the governor of the state, Umar Bago, the PDP delegates who were at the Niger State Government House on Thursday, expressed their concern over the activities of terrorists in the state and the nation at large.
They also condemned the attacks, killings and kidnappings perpetuated by the terrorists, while calling for concrete strategies towards restoring peace in Nigeria.
Speaking during his address, Turaki commended the Niger State Governor for his prompt response, efforts and collaboration with security agencies to secure the release of the abducted children and restore peace in the affected communities.
Turaki also assured Bago and the people of Niger State of the party’s prayers and support at this difficult time.
He said that the PDP remains committed to the safety and well-being of every citizen of the country irrespective of their political affiliation.
