THE National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the expulsion of Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu by the Imo State chapter of the party.

Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was suspended by the Ideato Local Government chapter of the PDP in a letter dated December 5, citing alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities.

However, the PDP’s NWC swiftly annulled the expulsion in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba.

“The NWC declares the said purported expulsion as null and void and of no effect, as it is inconsistent with the express provisions of Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and the Party’s established rules,” the statement read.

The NWC emphasized that, under Sections 59 (3) and 57 (7) of the PDP Constitution, no ward, local government, or state chapter has the authority to suspend, expel, or discipline a member of the National Assembly without consulting the National Working Committee, as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
