PDP State Chairmen Disown Faction, Reaffirm Loyalty To Damagum

The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its full weight behind the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, dismissing the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as unconstitutional and without legitimacy.

The forum, comprising 29 state chairmen, stated this in a communique issued after its meeting on Thursday, November 6, insisting that Damagum remains the only recognised national chairman under the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).

In the strongly worded statement, the chairmen distanced themselves completely from the factional leadership.

“The forum in the same vein dissociates itself from the purported Abdurahman leadership and wants to categorically say that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagun,” the statement read.

The chairmen commended the “collaborative leadership” between the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and the Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara.

The forum also demanded stricter enforcement of party discipline, directing state chapters to sanction members whose activities threaten the unity and stability of the party.

The statement further read, “The Forum emphasizes the critical importance of discipline within the Party and calls on all State Chapters not to hesitate in invoking the relevant provisions of the Party Constitution to discipline erring members whose conduct undermines unity, cohesion, and the collective interest of the PDP.”

With plans underway for the party’s next national convention, the forum urged all duly recognised delegates to prepare to participate actively, stressing that the process must produce credible and loyal members loyal to the PDP’s ideals.

The forum emphasised that the convention must uphold internal democracy, transparency, and fairness.

Reiterating their backing for the Damagum-led NWC, the state chairmen said they are committed to working with the national leadership to reposition the PDP for future electoral contests.

They added, “The Forum reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the unity, progress, and electoral success of the PDP across all levels and pledges to continue working closely with the National leadership to strengthen internal democracy and rebuild public confidence in the Party.”
