Peacemaker Fans Have Questions About Season 2 Following DC Slate Announcement

There’s plenty to be excited about in James Gunn’s announcement of the new upcoming DC projects. But what does that mean for the nearly finished productions from before Gunn’s time as head of the studio’s film division? Thankfully, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director has confirmed that such anticipated films as “Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” are still slated to be released (via The Hollywood Reporter).

But one project that hasn’t seen any significant recent updates is Gunn’s own HBO Max series, “Peacemaker.” Twitter is seeing a barrage of fans wondering what’s to become of the beloved series, with @lancestein936 asking, “What does this mean for Peacemaker season 2?? That show is fantastic and I’d hate to see it be canceled after one season.” Similarly, @TimAtMoreFun loves the upcoming content, but also questions, “[N]o mention of Peacemaker season two? Is that still in the cards?”

A spin-off of Gunn’s 2021 DC film “The Suicide Squad,” “Peacemaker” sees the titular antihero (John Cena) team up with a government organization to take down a worldwide threat. Gunn’s usual stamp of quirky comedy and offbeat characters brought the first season critical acclaim, with a second season confirmed just as it was wrapping up in February 2022 (via Deadline). While there’s been no official word of what will become of that sophomore season, that doesn’t mean Gunn doesn’t have plans for these characters.
