Peller apologises for suicide attempt amid police investigation

TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, has issued an apology to Nigerians from his hospital bed following his arrest for an attempted suicide on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

In a now-viral video shared on Instagram, the influencer admitted that he let his emotions overwhelm him and expressed regret over the incident.

“I am sorry, Nigerians. Please, I will never do that again. I let my emotions get to me; I didn’t do it intentionally,” he stated.

Peller attempted to take his own life during a livestream on the Lekki–Epe Expressway, which ended in a car crash. The livestream, titled “RIP Peller,” quickly gained virality on social media.

The influencer reportedly took this drastic step after an alleged breakup with his girlfriend, Elizabeth Amadou, also known as Jarvis. At the time of the incident, Peller was alone in his newly purchased Mercedes-Benz and appeared to be emotionally distressed while on a phone call with someone believed to be Jarvis. In the livestream, he could be seen and heard crying as he expressed fears before the vehicle crashed.

Following the incident, Peller was arrested and detained by the Lagos State Police Command for reckless driving while livestreaming, which led to the road traffic crash.

 Confirming the arrest, police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stated that Peller’s actions constituted a deliberate attempt to take his own life and posed a serious threat to public safety. She added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

“The outcome of the investigation will be made public upon conclusion, and the suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also warned social media influencers and content creators against using their platforms to promote dangerous, unlawful, or criminal behavior. “Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, in response to widespread reactions regarding Peller’s hospitalization, Jarvis addressed claims that she had visited him. In a live video, she confirmed that she was no longer in a relationship with him, citing emotional instability as a major concern.

“He cannot control his emotions. That’s the problem,” she said. While describing Peller as a kind person, she explained that the decision was made to allow space for healing rather than reconciliation.

“The relationship is not the issue now. The focus is on helping him get better. For now, the relationship is over,” she added.

Jarvis also urged supporters and social media users to refrain from spreading harmful narratives or mocking the situation, emphasizing the need for compassion during the recovery process.
