Pensioners In Rivers State have lamented over the current difficulties in assessing their monthly pension allowances and the alleged stoppage of their Gratuities by the Rivers state sole Administrator
some of the pensioners who spoke to our correspondent Anita Ogona laments that they are unable to access their monthly pension allowance despite haven be cleared from the recent verification exercise done by Rivers State govt. They call on the government to come to their aid as they depend solely on the proceeds of their pension allowance to enable them buy basic needs and drugs for age related ailments
Meanwhile the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Rivers State says irregularities in the payment of pension and gratuity are responsible for the suspension of the process in the state.
The State secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Rivers State, Dr JOSEPH AGBO, told our correspondent that the complaints of delays and non payment of gratuity and pensioners allowance is as result of the recently concluded verification exercise conducted by the sole administrator
Dr JOSEPH AGBO also called for patience among pensioners in the state. He said that the State Government is working hard to correct the irregularities to enable pensioners to receive their payment.The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Rivers State, Dr JOSEPH AGBO, further said that the ongoing verification exercise has recorded an 80 percent success rate.
Dr JOSEPH AGBO added that pensioners would receive improved pensions in line with the new minimum wage structure.
