Pete Davidson has been spending a huge amount of time and money getting his body tattoos removed.

In a chat with Variety, the Saturday Night Live alum opened up about how brutal tattoo removal can be. He described the healing process as a lengthy ordeal. Davidson says that each session can take up to six weeks to recover and that 10 to 12 sessions are needed per tattoo.

“It’s like putting your arm on a grill and burning off a layer, and then you gotta do maintenance and let it heal properly,” he told the outlet. “And it’s pretty tough. It sucks, I’m not gonna lie.”

Davidson revealed he’s already forked out nearly $200,000 on the procedure and he’s only about 30 percent finished.

He began the process back in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, focusing first on his arms, neck, and hands, and the comedian says his back and torso are next in line for treatment.

Davidson says he’s living a healthier life now that he’s walked away from drugs.

“I used to be a drug addict and I was a sad person, and I felt ugly and that I needed to be covered up and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with tattoos, but mine, when I look at them, I remember a sad person that was very unsure. So I’m just removing them and starting fresh, because that’s what I think works best for me and for my brain,” he shared.

“When I look in the mirror, I don’t want the reminder of ‘Oh yeah, you were a f–king drug addict. Like, that’s why you have SpongeBob smoking a joint on your back.’ They should have meaning. Not just that I was high watching Game of Thrones,” he added.
