Social commentator, Prince Isaac Fayose, has faulted Peter Obi’s decision to pick Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

Fayose said the Labour Party’s former vice-presidential candidate lacked the political influence needed to strengthen Obi’s presidential ambition, arguing that he could not even secure victory for the party in his state.

He stated this in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Monday while commenting on the political activities surrounding Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The commentator recalled that Datti was relatively unknown nationally before Obi selected him as his running mate in 2022, describing the choice as one of the mistakes made during the 2023 campaign.

Fayose said, “Datti Ahmed is a failure. Nobody knew this man before Peter Obi picked him in 2022 as his running mate.”

He further suggested that Datti’s recent disagreements with Obi may have been influenced by the former Anambra State governor’s reported preference for Rabiu Kwankwaso in the emerging 2027 political arrangement.

Fayose said Obi’s current running mate possessed greater political influence, popularity and experience in Northern Nigeria than Datti.

He added that Datti’s failure to deliver his state during the 2023 election was evidence, in his view, that Obi made a poor choice by selecting him as his running mate.
