A social critic and advocate of good governance, Aisha Yesufu, has berated the governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, for warning former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, not to visit the state without security clearance.
Naijaonpoint reported that Okpebholo had declared that Obi’s safety might not be guaranteed if he visits Edo without his approval.
However, speaking during an appearance on Channels Television, Yesufu questioned Okpebholo’s right to give security clearance to any Nigerian before visiting the state.
According to her, “He said it very clearly, and he said it very loud. He said your security will not be guaranteed if you come in anything that happens to you, you know it’s on you so and that’s a threat to his life. Beyond that also is the fact that the Edo state government also came out with a statement where they said that he wasn’t threatening him, but he needs to tell him when he’s coming and also get security clearance.
“I don’t know what gave governor the audacity that he can actually give security clearance for any Nigerian to be able to come to Edo state. Edo state is not his family estate.
“He currently might be the one who, who is governing the state, but he doesn’t have the right to give anybody clearance for them to be anywhere.”
