Katsina United fan allegedly slit the throat of Barau FC player, Nana Abraham, moments after his team equalised in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports. 

The gruesome event occurred at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, where the home side, Katsina United, had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half before Orji Kalu levelled the score in the 69th minute.

According to live match updates posted by Maliya Boys on their official X (formerly Twitter) page, play was briefly halted in the 70th minute after Abraham was attacked.

The club wrote:

“70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham.
Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Eyewitnesses claim that moments after Kalu’s equaliser,  the Changi Boys supporter invaded the pitch and launched an attack with a deep cut on Abraham’s neck, which left everyone at the stadium in shock.

After the Attack: What Happened to Nana Abraham?

The match continued after a short delay. The midfielder Hillary Ekawu replaced Abraham in the 71st minute before the game ended 1-1.

Many have described the attack as “barbaric” and called for the Nigeria Premier Football League board and security agencies to ensure justice for Abraham.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Katsina United nor the league’s management has released an official statement regarding the incident. The condition of Nana Abraham remains unclear.
