A group identifying itself as the Concerned Plateau APC Legacy Members issued has warned against attempts to prevent Governor Caleb Mutfwang from joining the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The members, who trace their party affiliation back to the APC’s formation on 6 February 2013, said they have “never looked back nor switched allegiance” and have worked to build the party from “patchy grounds” to winning the governorship and several legislative seats in Plateau State.
Speaking through its Convener, Emmanuel Dankasa, in Jos, they criticised “disgruntled individuals”, who have staged protests claiming to represent all APC members in Plateau, describing the actions as “ill‑advised, counter‑productive and puerile.”
The group called for disciplinary measures against anyone found to be “card‑carrying members” involved in the protests, warning that failure to act would suggest the protesters are “mere pawns, executing sinister motives of vested interests within the party hierarchy.”
The group highlighted the APC’s practice of welcoming defectors, citing recent receptions at Jos Polo field and in Lokoja, Kogi State, and questioned why the party would now “sit back and allow its supposed members to organize protests to block a sitting governor from joining the party.”
While noting that no official statement has been released by Governor Mutfwang or his Spokesperson confirming an intention to defect.
The group suggested that Mutfwang’s potential move would be “the biggest catch the party would have recorded in Plateau State since its formation in 2013.”
The members urged Governor Mutfwang to “compassionately look into the plight of the sacked workers” of Plateau tertiary institutions and to “scrutinise the beneficiaries and recall those who are truly deserving of the opportunity, regardless of their political loyalty.”
They appealed to genuine lovers of APC to support the governor’s possible entry into the mainstream national politics, emphasising the benefits of aligning with the ruling party under President Bola Tinubu.
