THREE young people were killed yesterday by assailants in Rakok village, located in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A statement from the Berom Youths Moulders Association, signed by its National President Dalyop Mwantiri, revealed that the victims were brutally murdered while conducting their business in the community during the attack.

The association condemned the assault, which has become a recurring issue in the area, and called for security forces to address the ongoing breaches and destruction of crops.

“The ongoing killings, ambushes, assaults on women, deliberate destruction, and mass harvesting of corn and other crops belonging to the Berom indigenous people by Fulani militants and criminal gangs in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, parts of Jos South Local Government Areas, and across Plateau State must be addressed with appropriate military action to prevent further escalation of the situation,” the association stated.

“The Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYM) urgently urges security agencies, particularly Operation Safe Haven, to take immediate action against the daily aggressions to ensure that these areas, as well as Plateau State as a whole, do not become scenes of violence like in the past.”

The association is requesting an investigation into the attack, the apprehension of those responsible for the killings, and compensation for the extensive crop destruction, stolen motorcycles, and medical assistance for the injured.

As of now, neither the police nor the Joint Security Task Force Operation Safe Haven has released any statements or responses regarding the recent attack.
