Mr Matthew Kwarpoe, Chairman of Plateau House of Assembly Committee on Information, has described Daniel Naanlong, the newly elected speaker of the assembly, as a unifier.
Kwarpoe (APC, Mangu South) said this on Thursday in Jos when he briefed the press on the latest developments of the 10th assembly.
The chairman said that the new speaker who was elected on Wednesday has immense experience, as he had served in the 8th and 9th state assemblies.
He expressed confidence that Naanlong would bring his wealth of experience to improve on all the legacies created by the past assemblies.
“I and other members are optimistic that the present speaker would change the narrative by ensuring that more bills are passed into laws.
“The immediate past speaker of the assembly, Gabriel Dewan, the lone member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), was a ‘stabiliser’.
“Dewan, in a spirit of unity, development and good governance, on Wednesday during plenary, took the decision that changed the narrative of the state assembly by resigning and stepping aside.
“He did so for the house to elect a new leader from the southern zone and the All Progressives Congress (APC) bloc.
“The former speaker is from the same zone as the governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and there was a need to adhere to the zonal arrangement.
“As you are aware, the zoning arrangement is an understanding of the people of Plateau; it must be respected,” he said.
Kwarpoe said that the election was done peacefully and the current speaker, Naanlong, was elected, with 23 members of the assembly present. (NAN) (http://www.nannews.ng)
