Sony is up to their old tricks again and has just announced a surprise State of Play stream. In case you forgot, State Of Play is essentially PlayStation’s “Nintendo Direct” format, where they typically announce new games and release dates outside bigger games industry events and expos.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the stream will be 35 minutes long and will feature “reveals and news from developers around the world.” There is a focus, however, as Sony notes that the stream will include “an extended look at Saros, Housemarque’s mysterious new title arriving next year.”
Housemarque’s New Game Will Be The Focus
We Haven’t Heard From Saros In A While
While Sony promises new reveals and announcements, the core game being showcased this time is Saros, the next title from Housemarque. As a reminder, Housemarque is a renowned subsidiary of PlayStation Studios, having gained fame with Super Stardust HD in 2007, followed by other notable games such as Resogun and Returnal. They have since become a fixture at PlayStation.
At 35 minutes total, one has to wonder how long this “extended look” will be, and if it’ll take up at least half of the stream. It’s interesting how much of a priority Housemarque has become for Sony, to the point where it’ll take up a substantial chunk of time. Other than that, we’re still waiting to see what Insomniac has in store for the Spider-Man and Wolverine series.
The last State Of Play event was July 10, and was heavily focused on Ghost of Yotei, which is actually out soon. Before that, the most recent “general State of Play” was held in June. The biggest announcements from that stream were Nioh 3, Marvel Tokon, and the Final Fantasy Tactics revival. While some State of Play events can be more low-key, Sony has surprised us on multiple occasions.

It’s Available On YouTube and Twitch
Like many past State of Play events, the stream will be available to watch live at 5PM ET on September 24 on both Twitch and YouTube. In our experience, Twitch streams are a few seconds ahead of YouTube, but both will be more than sufficient if you want to watch the stream live. You can also catch all the major coverage right here on ScreenRant.
At just 35 minutes and a large focus on Saros, ideally, this State of Play will have more exciting announcements in tow. Hopefully, Saros is worth all of this mystique and mystery, too.
