PNY has just announced its new CS2150 Gen5 NVMe SSDs and boy do they come with some fast read and write speeds. Now this won’t necessarily be something that matters to every single user. Fast read and write speeds, or transfer speeds if you prefer to call them that, aren’t going to be needed for everything and everyone.
If you’re a more casual PC user then you likely don’t care about how quickly things transfer between folders or drives. It may not matter to you how fast things install after they’ve been downloaded. For many users, though, faster transfer speeds can shave off precious seconds and allow you to continue doing what you were doing before the transfer.
That’s who the new PNY CS2150 SSD is for. The user who wants lightning-fast transfers so they won’t be hindered by wait timers. No one wants to sit there and stare at a progress bar filling up little by little. You just want to blink and have it be done with.
If that’s you, then you’re in luck. PNY’s new SSDs are incredibly quick and should do little if anything to bog your system down.
The PNY CS2150 SSD has sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s
To put things into perspective, some of the fastest SSDs out there right now that can be used in something like the PS5 have sequential read speeds in the 7,000 MB/s range. For example, the Samsung 990 Pro, a PCIe Gen4 SSD, has read speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s. That’s nearly 3,000 less than PNY’s new CS2150 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD at 10,300 MB/s.
Granted, this is partially because it’s a Gen5 SSD and once more Gen5 SSDs are announced, their speeds will probably be around the same amount. So this isn’t going to be something that’s entirely unique to PNY. However, PNY is a longstanding brand in this space, and it makes some pretty reliable storage drives. Its drives also tend to be a little more affordable than what you’ll find from Samsung and Western Digital. In addition to the read speeds, PNY says its new SSD is capable of write speeds up to 8,600 MB/s. So it’s fast all around.
Plus, PNY says that it’ll be super-fast for gamers thanks to the Microsoft DirectStorage support.
Drives start at $99.99
PNY has already launched the CS2150 NVMe SSD so if you’re looking to upgrade, you can find the company’s new drive on Amazon starting at $99.99. This is for the 1TB model and it doesn’t come with a heatsink. So if you want something for your PS5, you’ll need a third-party heatsink attached. The CS2150 also comes in a 2TB model for $179.99 and it can also be found at Amazon. Both size variants can also be picked up directly from PNY.
