Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber during a late-night patrol, recovering a stolen vehicle, a locally made pistol, and five rounds of live ammunition.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest took place on the evening of October 16, 2025, when officers attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu Ukwu, were on Aberdeen patrol along Ukpomili–Ifitedunu Road in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

The operatives intercepted a black Lexus vehicle with registration number RSH 613 AZ driven by one Chiemerie Udeh, aged 22. A thorough search of the car led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and five rounds of live ammunition.

Given the above discovery, the suspect was immediately arrested, and the firearm, ammunition and vehicle were taken into custody as exhibits for further investigation,” Ikenga said.

Preliminary investigations, he added, revealed that the vehicle may have been stolen and was being transported for a planned rival cult attack in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He assured residents of the command’s relentless commitment to dismantling cult groups and tackling violent crime across the state.

“Our operatives remain on high alert, and anyone found involved in cultism or violent crime will face the full weight of the law,” the Commissioner stated.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
