The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the death of his 35-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, in Kaduna State.
Jeremiah was found dead after an alleged confrontation with Jatau over a phone call involving another woman.
Police said her body was discovered around 7am on Saturday, September 5, 2026, along Mai Angwa Street in Romi, Kaduna.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Romi Outstation alerted the command after the discovery, prompting detectives to visit the scene and begin an investigation.
Jeremiah was later taken to St Gerald Hospital in Kakuri for medical examination. A doctor confirmed that she had died.
Her remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Preliminary findings identified Jatau as the last person known to have contacted the deceased. Investigators also learnt that he had asked her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi.
Following the lead, detectives traced Jatau to his workplace at Tomato Jos Company in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna, where he was arrested.
According to the police, the suspect admitted during interrogation that he had a quarrel with Jeremiah inside his room after receiving a phone call from another woman.
Police said the confrontation allegedly turned violent and resulted in Jeremiah’s death.
The suspect also allegedly told investigators that he moved the woman’s body to an open field near his residence in an attempt to hide the incident.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said detectives were still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
Jatau remains in police custody while the investigation continues. He is expected to face prosecution after detectives complete their inquiry.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned violence arising from personal disputes and called on residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.
Muhammad also assured residents that the command would pursue the case and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the law.
He urged residents to share credible information with security agencies to help prevent violent crimes and protect lives across Kaduna State.
