The Osun State Police Command has clarified reports circulating on social media about an alleged bandits attack along the Osogbo–Iwo road on 18th November 2025.

In a statement signed by the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun on Thursday, the Command stated that no herdsmen or bandits attack occurred along the road on the said date.

The Command explained that the incident involved a collision between a Toyota Sienna and a bungle bus around the Gbongan axis at about 12:30 p.m.

Ojelabi said the bus, which was travelling from Benin to Osogbo, failed to stop after the collision despite the visible damage to the Toyota Sienna’s bumper.

He noted that the Sienna driver raised an alarm and mobilised people along the road, accusing the two occupants of the bus of being kidnappers and thieves.

The Public Relations Officer added that the false alarm led to a mob attack on the occupants, resulting in injuries and the vandalisation of the vehicle.

He confirmed that a local hunter intervened, rescued the victims, and moved them to the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters for safety.

Ojelabi said the mob later trailed the victims to the station, forcing the Divisional Police Officer to call for reinforcement to restore calm.

He said the victims remained safe in protective custody while efforts were ongoing to apprehend those involved in the attack.

Ojelabi urged the public to avoid spreading false alarms and jungle justice, reminding citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency lines.
