The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have described Saturday’s by-election in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State as peaceful, orderly, and successful.
Naijaonpoint reports that the election, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), held across the two local government areas, drew commendations from security agencies for its calm and disciplined atmosphere.
Speaking in a telephone interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, attributed the success of the poll to the strong security presence.
“The dominance and presence of security personnel across all nooks and crannies of the election area curbed any potential violence or malpractice,” Adam said.
He further stressed that the compliance of voters with electoral guidelines ensured that “the peaceful environment truly reflected the will of the people.”
NSCDC Cites Synergy With Other Security Agencies
Also speaking, the NSCDC spokesperson in the state, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, commended the synergy among security agencies and the cooperation of voters.
“Our coordination and synergy with other security agencies ensured smooth operations, and voters showed great discipline throughout the poll,” Tijjani noted.
He added, “Their adherence to rules was crucial for this success.”
Tijjani explained that although a minor issue occurred at a polling unit in Babura town, security personnel promptly intervened to restore order, preventing any escalation.
He highlighted that across the constituency, security forces worked closely with INEC to prevent disruptions.
“No arrests were made regarding electoral misconduct, and no money linked to vote buying was recovered in both LGAs,” he confirmed.
According to the PUNCH, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Jigawa, Prof. Muhammad Lawan, was unavailable at the INEC office in Dutse after the declaration of results.
Although reports of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) glitches emerged in other states, an INEC official in Jigawa, who declined to be named, insisted that Saturday’s exercise in the state recorded no major technical failures.
