THE Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a man kidnapped in Orumba South Local Government Area during a routine patrol around the Isulo axis.
The victim, a South African-based Nigerian from Obinagu–Isikweachi in Oji River, Enugu State, was abducted on the evening of January 1, 2026.
According to a press statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Spokesman, six armed men wearing masks carried out the abduction.
The victim managed to escape from the kidnappers’ hideout, which led to his rescue by police-led joint security operatives attached to the Forward Operating Base in Aguata on January 15, 2026.
“The victim disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦40 million from his wife and relatives,” SP Ikenga said. “He has since been debriefed and reunited with his family.”
The police are using intelligence provided by the victim to track the kidnappers and dismantle their hideout.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive policing and ensuring public safety.
This rescue follows another recent operation, where the command arrested two suspected armed robbers linked to a banned secessionist group after a gun battle at Enugwu-Agidi Junction in Dunukofia LGA.
