The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers after uncovering eight parcels of suspected Canadian Loud hidden inside a car tyre.
Police operatives made the discovery at a vulcanising workshop following intelligence received by the command on September 2, 2026.
According to the command, the suspects were allegedly involved in concealing the suspected illicit substance inside the tyre as part of an attempt to evade detection.
The police spokesperson in Oyo State, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said the intelligence prompted the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, to order the Anti-Narcotics Section to investigate the report.
Operatives subsequently moved to the vulcanising shop, where they arrested the two suspects with assistance from the vulcaniser.
Eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Canadian Loud were recovered from the tyre during the operation.
Police also seized a vulcanising machine allegedly used to conceal the suspected drugs inside the tyre.
The command said the arrests had provided investigators with information that could help uncover a wider drug trafficking network operating in the state.
During questioning, both suspects reportedly admitted their involvement and are now assisting investigators with efforts to establish the full scope of the operation.
Police said the investigation would continue until all relevant aspects of the case had been established.
The suspects are expected to face prosecution after investigators conclude their inquiries, while efforts are also being made to track down other members of the suspected syndicate.
The Oyo police command said its intelligence-led operations would continue as part of measures to disrupt criminal activities across the state.
It also warned that the circulation of illicit drugs could worsen other forms of criminality by affecting judgment and creating conditions that encourage violence.
According to the command, tackling drug trafficking remains important to the wider fight against crimes including cultism, robbery, kidnapping and organised criminal activities.
