A woman, Aishatu Salisu, has been killed during an early-morning attack at Wuro Shie Quarters in Gombe State, after suspected robbers allegedly targeted her mobile phone.

Aishatu was the wife of Inspector Salisu Waziri, a police officer attached to the Safer Highway Patrol.

The attack happened at about 4:35am on Saturday, September 26, 2026, when the assailants allegedly entered the residence armed with machetes and cutlasses.

According to the police, the attackers demanded Aishatu’s phone. She reportedly raised an alarm, prompting one of them to strike her with a machete.

The assailants fled after the attack and left the phone behind. However, Aishatu sustained injuries that proved fatal.

Police operatives from the Pantami Divisional Patrol Team responded to the incident and rushed her to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police.

The killing has since triggered an investigation by the Gombe State Police Command, which said two suspects were arrested following efforts to track those allegedly responsible.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Muhammad Bashir Sale, also known as “Full”, and 18-year-old Musa Sale Ahmad, alias “Abba”.

Both suspects are residents of Wuro Shie Quarters, where the attack occurred.

Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the crime. A sharp knife was also recovered as an exhibit.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Gombe for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso ordered a discreet and thorough investigation, with the command saying anyone found culpable would face the law.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station.

The command said further updates would be made available as the investigation progresses.
