Portable, the controversial singer, facing a nine-count criminal charge, was arraigned on Monday before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State.
The charges were confirmed by Oluseyi Babaseyi, Ogun State police spokesperson, who said they include assault, theft, causing harm and resisting arrest.
The arraignment followed a video that circulated widely on Sunday showing the singer in police custody, reportedly connected to a complaint lodged by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
The prosecutors claimed that Portable allegedly attacked Ashabi alongside police officers and other individuals at his bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.
The prosecution listed additional alleged victims as Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.
Portable was further accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million from a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto, with the vehicle said to belong to Ileyemi.
During the hearing, two siblings of Ashabi Simple appeared as witnesses to the alleged assault, although she was absent from the proceedings.
The police also accused the singer of obstructing and assaulting Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, while she was carrying out her official duties.
The presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the failure of the allegedly assaulted police officer to appear before the court.
The judge ruled that the officer must be presented before any decision on bail could be taken, leading to Portable’s remand in custody until January 19 for a fresh hearing.
Separately, the Ogun State Police Command recently ordered an investigation into another viral video that showed the singer allegedly being assaulted while in custody.
Portable has previously been remanded in detention, having been convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in May last year by a magistrate court in Ifo local government area of Ogun.
That conviction arose from a 2022 incident in which the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ singer was accused of attacking Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo within the Ifo axis.
He was also alleged to have stolen musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a studio interface connection cable and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
