Portsmouth’s price tag for 26-year-old is outlined amid interest from Scottish outfit

Curtis

Portsmouth will accept an offer of £500,000 for Ronan Curtis this summer from a potential suitor, according to a report from The News.

It is understood that Curtis is likely to leave Fratton Park in the current transfer window.

Hibernian have now emerged as contenders for the 26-year-old’s signature as manager Lee Johnson looks to bolster his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Despite interest from the Scottish side, it is believed that Curtis is keen on sealing a move to a team in the Championship as he wants to test himself at this level.

Although the Republic of Ireland international was unable to replicate the performance levels that he produced in the 2020/21 campaign during the previous campaign, he still managed to produce some eye-catching displays in the third-tier.

In the 43 appearances that he made in the third-tier, Curtis scored eight goals and provided eight assists for his team-mates.

Curtis also lined up for his side in the EFL Trophy, League Cup and FA Cup.

Portsmouth will be aiming to move forward as a club next season after finishing 10th in the League One standings earlier this year.

The scale of Pompey’s success will depend on whether they are able to nail their transfer recruitment over the course of the current transfer window.

The Verdict

If this report turns out to be correct, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if a potential suitor opts to match Portsmouth’s asking price for Curtis this summer.

Given that Curtis’ contract at Fratton Park is set to expire in 2023, Pompey head coach Danny Cowley knows that the current window represents a realistic opportunity of securing a respectable fee for the winger.

With Hibernian believed to be interested in the winger, they could decide to avoid the possibility of being dragged into a battle for his signature by meeting Pompey’s valuation.

Before sanctioning a departure for Curtis, Portsmouth simply have to draft up a list of replacements for him.

By identifying a player who they believe can make a similar impact in terms of creativity as Curtis, Pompey may not necessarily miss the winger if he does indeed move on to pastures new.
