PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the nation will rise above its current economic difficulties, emphasizing that poverty will not define the country’s future.
Speaking today at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference in Abuja, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the economy through ongoing reforms.
“We may be poor, but poverty is not going to be our milestone. We are going to come out of it,” the President declared.
Acknowledging that the economic reforms introduced by his government have been tough, Tinubu said they are necessary to lay a solid and lasting foundation for national growth.
He highlighted efforts to restore macroeconomic stability, attract investment, and rebuild confidence in the economy.
“The signs of progress are visible in several sectors of the economy,” he noted. “However, we know there is still much to be done, and we remain focused on ensuring that growth translates into real improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.”
Tinubu also underscored the importance of collaboration among all sectors—government, private institutions, civil society, and the media—in achieving national development.
He urged the media to promote unity and responsible journalism, adding that nation-building requires trust and shared understanding.
“Let us choose clarity over confusion, responsibility over recklessness, and hope over despair,” he said. “The stories we tell ourselves as a nation shape the country we become.”
Addressing the issue of national security, the President called on Nigerians to support the military in its fight against terrorism and banditry.
“Our armed forces put their lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our duty to inspire and encourage them,” Tinubu stated.
The conference brought together journalists, editors, and key national stakeholders to discuss the role of the media in shaping Nigeria’s democratic and economic future.
