Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that politicians struggle for power because it is not dashed as a gift.
Naijaonpoint reports that Wike made the remarks during his thank you tour to Obiora/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday.
Wike noted that the United States President, Donald Trump, captured his Venezuelan counterpart because of the power he had.
The former Governor of Rivers State threatened to use his powers to punish those against him.
He said: “Power is not dashed, you struggle for it. If Donald Trump doesn’t have power he would not go to Venezuela to pick up the President.
“Can a local government area that produced 5,000 votes challenge a local government that produces 40 percent of the votes? We will use our strength to punish people.”
Meanwhile, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and the ObiDient movement, Dickson Iroegbu, has blamed the renewed impeachment moves against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on what he described as the All Progressives Congress’s empowerment of political overreach, warning that the development poses a threat to democratic stability.
Speaking in an interview on Arise News on Friday, Iroegbu said the sudden recall of the Rivers State House of Assembly from recess to commence impeachment proceedings was deliberate and premeditated.
“Of course, Charles, the sudden coming back of the State Assembly from their recess, the only mission they had was clear: to come for that impeachment notice,” he said.
Iroegbu argued that the language and posture of the Assembly leadership reflected the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that the lawmakers were acting on external instructions.
