Videos from the event showed the Nigerian leader momentarily losing his balance while walking alongside his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during the guard of honour.

The incident, which drew widespread attention on social media, occurred shortly after the President arrived in the European nation on a state visit.

Reacting to the video, Presidential aide, Dada Olusegun, addressed the matter via his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the President had quickly resumed his official engagements.

“Mr President missed his step very briefly and has continued his bilateral meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. A live press conference is happening immediately after the bilateral,” Olusegun wrote.

The Presidency further confirmed that the incident had no impact on Tinubu’s ability to carry out his duties, as he proceeded with a full schedule of meetings and events.

A video published by Turkish news outlet, Nefes Gazetesi, showed Tinubu walking side by side with Erdoğan before the Nigerian President tripped. He was quickly assisted to his feet by members of his security detail, and the programme continued without delay.
