“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Cardoso to resign,” Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy stated via X (formerly Twitter), following the reports on Tuesday.

Recall that President Tinubu appointed Cardoso as CBN Governor in 2023 for a term of five (5) years at the first instance to replace Mr Godwin Emefiele, who is yet struggling to clear his name of malfeasance during his time in office as CBN Governor.

According to the reports, President Tinubu ordered Cardoso to resign his appointment as CBN Governor, owing to his inability to stop the poor performance of the economy, most especially, the free fall of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.
