The Presidency has backed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the declaration of Abdullahi Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as wanted.
The EFCC said Haske, founder of AA & R Investment Group, is under investigation for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering, noting that he flouted bail conditions and declined to honour repeated summons.
Reacting to the development, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, described the move as political persecution.
However, the Presidency dismissed the claim. Presidential media adviser, Sunday Dare, maintained that the EFCC was acting strictly within its constitutional mandate.
“There is no harassment or victimisation here, only the independent and lawful operation of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions. No one is above the law,” he said.
He added that the administration remained committed to due process and the rule of law, insisting that those attempting to politicise the case were “grasping at straws.”
It is understood that Haske had been under investigation for months but went into hiding after securing bail.
