President Tinubu Declares State Of Emergency On Security Training Institutions

President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in the nation’s security training institutions.

According to Tinubu, the training facilities, including those of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies, are in an outdated condition.

He lamented that the outdated state of these facilities raises concerns about their effectiveness in delivering their mandates and therefore instructed an urgent modernisation.

The position of the President was disclosed by the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who is the chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions, during an on-the-spot inspection of facilities in Lagos.

Naijaonpoint reports that Mbah, who was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Committee Secretary and former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), said the committee has 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to NEC for further action.

According to Mbah, President Tinubu was deeply concerned that outdated training facilities are being used to prepare security personnel, who are expected to uphold human dignity in their interactions with citizens.

He explained that the President gave the directive during the last NEC meeting on October 23, stressing that the current state of the security training institutions “did not align with his dream of growing the economy to one trillion dollars in the next five years.”
