Pro-Wike Lawmakers Slam Fubara Over “Illegal” Appointments

Speaker Martin Amaewhule and Governor Siminalayi Fubara 1

The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, expressed outrage over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s “purported” appointment of individuals to the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, declaring the Agency an unknown legal entity.

During the 41st Legislative Sitting of the Second Session, the House Committee on Commerce and Industry presented a report highlighting the absence of any law establishing the Agency.

Committee Chairman, Hon. Gerald Oforji, noted that if properly established, the Agency would attract and grow businesses in the State.

However, Members condemned the Governor’s actions, stating that he has disregarded decency in governance.

The Speaker, Amaewhule, described the appointments as “condemnable” and “deliberate defiance” of extant laws and the 1999 Constitution.

“Why would Governor Fubara continue to act in defiance of the law, knowing it constitutes misconduct?” Amaewhule wondered. “Such infractions will be properly addressed.”

The Speaker recalled similar actions by Governor Fubara, including appointments to the Bureau for Public Procurement without regard to extant laws.

The Lawmakers voted in the affirmative, condemning the Governor’s actions as “illegal” and “questionable”.

“We will not stand idly by while the Governor disregards the law,” Amaewhule emphasized. “We will take necessary actions to address these infractions.”
