Properties worth millons of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged a residential building in Ibadan.
The incident occured at Ifesowapo Atilapa area of Ibadan.
The incident occured on Saturday.
It was learnt that the residential building of eight(8) rooms was affected by fire.
It was learnt that no casualty was recorded.
Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, when contacted confirmed the incident.
He said that no casualty was recorded.
He said “The fire crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.
“No casualty was recorded. The preliminary investigation revealed the fire incident was as a result of cooking gas unattended to and ignited nearby combustible materials”.
It was also learnt that a shop at Alhaji Moba complex, Gbagi abbatior,opposite Bola Ige international Market, Gbagi in Ibadan.
It was learnt that one out of a row of 17 prefabricated locked- up shops was engulfed in flames.
Akinwande also confirmed the incident.
He said, “On arrival, it was discovered to be one (1) out of a row of Seventeen (17) prefabricated locked- up shops engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected shop.
“The fire crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and within short period, the fire was completely extinguished preventing further spread to adjoining shops. No casualty was recorded. The preliminary investigation revealed that the fire incident was as a result of cooking gas unattended to caught fire and ignited to nearby combustibles and set the shop ablaze. The Agency was able to save properties worth millions of naira”.
