The Police Service Commission (PSC) has renamed its Chairman’s conference hall at the headquarters in Abuja after the late former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and immediate past Chairman of the Commission, Solomon Arase.

The Commission announced this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, describing the gesture as a mark of honour for the late reformist police chief.

According to the statement, the sixth-floor Chairman’s Hall of the Commission’s corporate headquarters will now be known as Solomon Arase Hall.

“The Police Service Commission has named its Chairman’s Hall on the 6th floor of its Corporate Headquarters as Solomon Arase Hall in honour of its late Chairman,” the statement read.

At a tribute night held in Abuja on Wednesday, the current Chairman of PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Aminu Malumfashi, hailed Arase as a man of rare courage, intellect, and integrity.

“His predecessor was not only a Police Officer of repute, a scholar and a reformer, he was a gentleman of rare courage and intellect,” Argungu said.

The PSC further announced that funeral activities would continue on Friday, September 26, 2025, with a requiem mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja, followed by a lying in state at his Abuja residence.

His remains will then be flown to Benin, Edo State, for the final burial rites, with interment scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at his Benin residence.

“A strong delegation from the Commission will also be in Edo State for the final burial rites of its former Chairman. His remains will be lowered to Mother Earth on Friday, October 3, 2025,” the statement added.

Arase, appointed the 18th Inspector-General of Police in April 2015, retired in June 2016. He later served as Chairman of the Police Service Commission until 2024. He passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja.
