Luis Enrique has declined to choose between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League semi-final, insisting he will simply watch the decisive tie unfold.
PSG booked their place in the last four of the UEFA Champions League with a convincing 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield, sealing a 4-0 aggregate victory after their first-leg triumph in Paris.
The French champions now wait to discover their next opponents, with Bayern Munich carrying a 2-1 advantage into their second leg against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena, following the opening leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Asked which side he would prefer to face in the semi-finals, Enrique said: “Every time I prefer one team, we have to play against the other one.
“I will watch the game in Paris, drinking a good cold beer.”
Attention inside the PSG camp, however, quickly turned to their own performance at Anfield, where Ousmane Dembélé inspired the win with a brace.
Speaking after the match, Dembélé told Prime Video: “We’re so happy that we were able to win this game because it was really difficult, especially the second half.
“But we found a way to win, and we’re through to the semi-finals, and we are delighted. I think we are at the same level [as last season]. We have this desire to win trophies, we will try to go all the way to the end, we will play our game until the end of the competition.”
Captain Marquinhos praised PSG’s discipline in his post-match reaction on Canal+, saying: “Liverpool used their strengths, but we were solid. Then we finally scored. You have to know how to do that and be strong when things get tough. We knew we weren’t qualified after the first leg, so the mentality was to win.”
Goalkeeper Matvei Safonov also reflected on the intensity of the night. He said, “We’re certainly very happy. It was a really tough match. We’re glad we managed to win in the end. We showed that we came here to win, which is important. It’s very emotional to be in the semi-finals. It’s a wonderful feeling.”
From the Liverpool camp, defender Ibrahima Konaté admitted disappointment but urged perspective after the defeat. He said, “We have to be happy because many players came back from injury, like [Alexander] Isak.
“PSG is a little bit better than last season, and to make a performance like that against them… We lost, but we have to build from that and realise how good we can be.”
