A Qatar Airways aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members made an emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday following a technical malfunction.
According to a statement from Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the aircraft developed a fault while in Nigerian airspace, prompting the emergency landing.
LASEMA said it received a distress call through its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines. Upon reaching the scene, the LASEMA Response Team (LRT) confirmed that the aircraft was in distress.
“The pilot executed a safe landing on the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with LASEMA and other emergency responders on high alert,” the statement said.
It added that multi-agency teams coordinated recovery efforts. After checks by the pilot and engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and repairs.
“All passengers were safely evacuated; no injuries were reported, and there were no fatalities,” LASEMA confirmed.
The agency further noted that despite the technical fault, the aircraft did not sustain major damage. “The aircraft has been secured on the apron, and recovery activities have been completed,” the statement concluded.
