Reality TV star, Queen Mercy Atang, has disagreed with Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo of David’s Christian Centre after his recent sermon on the role of men in providing for women.
Naijaonpoint recalls that , the clergyman preached that men are not biblically obligated to provide for women, describing it as a cultural expectation rather than a spiritual directive.
According to him, women should not rely solely on men for their needs but should also contribute.
Queen Mercy, who is known for sharing her views on family and faith, reacted strongly to the message.
She explained that while she respects the pastor’s ministry, she could not accept his position on the matter.
Using scriptural references, she maintained that the Bible describes the man as the head of the home and the provider, while the woman serves as a helper and supporter, not the one to shoulder every responsibility.
She said that many women are already functioning as providers in their homes and warned that teachings suggesting men are free from that role could worsen the imbalance.
Queen stressed that such views might encourage men to abandon what she sees as a God-given duty to care for their families.
She wrote on her Instagram page, “Dear Pastor Kingsley, I truly appreciate and love your ministry. I regularly listen to your marriage sermons, and they have been a tremendous blessing to me. However, I respectfully disagree with you on this. The Bible clearly states that the man is the head of his wife (Ephesians 5:23, 1 Corinthians 11:3), and the woman is his helpmeet (Genesis 2:18). “A helper is meant to support not to carry the entire burden.
“She is there to assist when things aren’t going well, not to shoulder every responsibility in the home. To me, this is quite self-explanatory. By putting this message out, it seems you may be encouraging a shift where men feel less obligated to provide, while women are increasingly expected to take on that role.
“The reality is that many women are already functioning as providers, and though your intention may not be to promote that imbalance, such messages can inadvertently reinforce it. I believe it’s important to be mindful of how such narratives are received, as they may lead some men to neglect their “God given” responsibilities. With love and respect.”
