Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Ferguson branch out with their new fantasy film, and it’s finally climbing its way down to the United States.

Both stars have risen to fame on the back of their franchise roles: Ferguson in three Mission: Impossible movies (2015–2023) and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies (2021–2026), and Garfield in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies (2012–2014), recently returning in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The latter has also received two Oscar nominations for his performances in Hacksaw Ridge (2016) and Tick, Tick… Boom! (2021). Now, the two stars have teamed up for a new fantasy film that is finally making its way to American audiences.

The Magic Faraway Tree Finally Lands U.S. Release Date

After premiering in the United Kingdom late last month, The Magic Faraway Tree has finally landed a release date in the United States. Based on Enid Blyton’s beloved book series, the fantasy adventure film follows a family of five forced to relocate to the remote English countryside, where the children discover a magical tree inhabited by unusual and whimsical characters.

The Magic Faraway Tree cast includes two-time Emmy winner Claire Foy (The Crown), Andrew Garfield, Delilah Bennett-Cardy, Billie Gadsdon, Phoenix Laroche, Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Nonso Anozie, Emmy winner Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), Dustin Demri-Burns, Mark Heap, Oliver Chris, Lenny Henry, Michael Palin, Simon Russell Beale, Jennifer Saunders, Hiran Abeysekera, Rebecca Ferguson as the villainous Dame Snap, and Dame Judi Dench.

Now, nearly two weeks after premiering in the United Kingdom, The Magic Faraway Tree has been acquired by Vertical and will be released in theaters in the United States on August 21, per Deadline. Producer Pippa Harris and Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey shared the following statements:

The film’s U.S. release on August 21 will come about five months after its March 27 premiere in the United Kingdom, where it has grossed nearly $11 million at the box office 11 days after its release, making it one the most successful live-action family films in the country since the pandemic after Paddington in Peru (2024) and the Roald Dahl movies Matilda: The Musical (2022) and Wonka (2023).

The movie has also received rave reviews, resulting in a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it an enchanting and quirky family affair, fueled by uplifting messages that update its story to modern-day issues of digital influence. Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy bring emotional weight, while Nicola Coughlan has also been praised for her eccentric performance in The Magic Faraway Tree.
