Red Dead Redemption 2 fans might have their hands full right now with the recent release of the Red Dead Redemption 1 next-gen upgrade, but there might be an even better option for players—and it’s a 2025 GOTY contender.
Players on Reddit have recently been discovering that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 scratches the same itch as Red Dead Redemption 2, with ThatGuyFrom720 claiming it’s the “only game I’ve been able to play since RDR2.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is hands-down one of the best RPGs to release in 2025, earning a GOTY nomination at The Game Awards alongside Clair Obscur, and it remains one of the most slept-on RPGs of the year.
RDR2 Fans Need To Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
While it may not seem like the most obvious jump to go from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are definitely some parallels that players will appreciate between the two games. Players like the above Redditor who appreciate a game with a “structured but open world, an immersive environment, amazing story,” and the sense of immersion and discovery will appreciate what KCD2 has to offer.
If you’re looking for an alternative to Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of gameplay and open-world exploration, as well as a compelling story and characters, KCD2 captures the same feeling and then some, despite being in a much different setting.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players note that it takes a minute to become fully hooked into the game, but as Nervous-Fig7316 puts it, “Just keep playing and I promise you it will suck you in like RDR2.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Is Arguably 2025’s Best RPG
While it’s a hugely successful and highly rated game, even earning a GOTY nomination, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is still one of the most slept-on RPGs of the year, largely because it was overshadowed by the likes of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With so many amazing games releasing this year, players simply don’t have time to try everything.
However, with more and more gamers discovering what Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has to offer, it isn’t surprising that connections to games like Red Dead Redemption 2 are happening. If you’re an RDR2 fan looking for a new obsession, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC.
