The House of Representatives will reconvene for plenary on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, reversing its earlier decision to suspend sittings for one week.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the House Spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi, who said the reversal followed “positive developments” arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government.
According to the statement, the House had earlier adjourned plenary until the following Tuesday due to growing concerns over contractors’ protests and the delayed release of funds under the 2024/2025 national budget.
However, Rotimi noted that after fresh consultations and progress in resolving those issues, the leadership deemed it necessary to recall members for an early resumption.
The development was formally communicated to lawmakers by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, via an internal memorandum on Tuesday.
“The early resumption will afford the Leadership of the House the opportunity to brief Members on progress recorded in resolving these issues and other related matters of national importance,” the memo read in part.
Rotimi confirmed that Wednesday’s plenary would focus on rescinding the earlier adjournment resolution to allow legislative business to continue.
The spokesman explained that the decision to reconvene earlier came after positive outcomes from ongoing engagements between the Executive and Legislative arms, particularly on the release of budgeted funds and addressing contractors’ grievances.
“This decision follows positive developments arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government concerning issues that informed the earlier adjournment, particularly matters relating to contractors’ agitations and the non-release of funds under the 2024/2025 budget,” Rotimi stated.
The House leadership has directed all Honourable Members to make necessary arrangements to attend the Wednesday plenary.
The session is expected to address key fiscal implementation matters, review pending motions, and set the tone for renewed legislative momentum after a week of heightened national debate over budget execution and project funding.
