Revealed: Names of 177 worshippers kidnapped in Kaduna [FULL LIST]

Church in Kaduna 1

The identities of 177 worshippers abducted from three churches in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been released by the affected community, days after the incident was initially denied by the police.

Gunmen attacked the churches on Sunday, abducting more than 100 worshippers during coordinated assaults.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command on Monday dismissed reports of the abductions, describing them as falsehoods spread by “conflict entrepreneurs” allegedly seeking to disrupt the state’s peace.

The denial sparked widespread outrage, with Nigerians and civil society organisations, including Christian Solidarity Worldwide–Nigeria (CSW-N), accusing security agencies of obstructing efforts to independently verify the incident.

CSW-N said soldiers prevented its team from accessing the community during a fact-finding visit, despite presenting proper identification.

The police however confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

In a statement issued, Benjamin Hundeyin, force public relations officer, said the confusion arose after a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council convened by Governor Uba Sani. Hundeyin explained that some representatives from Kajuru LGA disputed the abduction claims during the meeting, describing them as unfounded.

On Wednesday, the Adara Development Association (ADA), the umbrella body of the Adara ethnic nationality in Kajuru and Kachia LGAs, released the full list of abducted worshippers. The list was issued by Sebastine Barde, ADA president.

The document shows repeated surnames, suggesting that entire families were abducted together. Particularly affected families include the Amos family, with 13 members abducted; the Jonathan family, with 12 members; at least nine members of the Markus family; and six members of the Makudi family.

The oldest person on the list is 71-year-old Augustina Matthew, while the youngest is five-year-old Salvation Idris.
