The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, has urged the Federal Government to take a tough stance against the African Action Congress (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, over his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Naijaonpoint reports that the party also appealed to Nigerians to reject what it described as the “antics of a serial merchant of discord and purveyor of half-truths,” insisting that Sowore’s comments were defamatory and dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement on Wednesday, APC state chairman, Tony Okocha, said spreading falsehoods to discredit leaders was unacceptable.

“Attempting to incite Nigerians against the government with the crudity of style is treasonable felony. Any action capable of undermining public trust and threatening Nigeria’s democracy, stemming from malice, is unacceptable,” Okocha declared.

He noted that while criticism is healthy in any democracy, Sowore’s attacks on Tinubu and Wike crossed the line.

Recently, Sowore referred to President Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused Wike of using public funds to acquire luxury properties in Florida, United States.

Dismissing the claims, Okocha said, “These baseless allegations are nothing more than the bitter rantings of a man rejected at the polls and drowning in political irrelevance. What sane citizen of a country refers to the highest office holder as a criminal?”

The Rivers APC chairman further accused Sowore of running a media empire founded on blackmail.

“Sowore has built his entire career on lies. His Sahara Reporters platform is notorious for publishing fabricated stories and half-truths, often used as tools for blackmail and extortion,” Okocha alleged.

He recalled that the police had previously charged Sowore with forgery and false publication for circulating a “fake” police signal designed to undermine national security.

Okocha also cited Sowore’s 2019 #RevolutionNow protests, describing them as an attempted insurrection.

“No genuine democrat calls for the violent overthrow of a legitimate government. Sowore’s actions then, and his continued incitement now, prove he is more of an anarchist and a psychopath than a patriot,” he said.

The APC leader urged Nigerians to ignore Sowore’s “blackmail” and instead focus on the achievements of Tinubu and Wike.

“President Tinubu is implementing his 10-point ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’ The economy is booming! Road infrastructure is verifiable. The trillion-naira Lagos–Calabar expressway, which pundits like Sowore dismissed as impossible, is on the fast track. The blind can see it,” Okocha said.

He added that Nigerians should celebrate Tinubu’s strides rather than “pay attention to baseless conjectures.”
