A large crowd of supporters gathered at the VIP wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport today to welcome Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose return to the state has been highly anticipated.

Sources confirmed to newsmen that the governor, who had been away during the political turbulence in Rivers State, was expected to arrive soon.

Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly had been suspended from office for six months by President Bola Tinubu following a deepening crisis involving the governor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu announced the end of the emergency rule, clearing the way for the governor’s reinstatement.

While the House of Assembly reconvened yesterday, Fubara did not immediately resume at the Government House, even as hundreds of loyalists trooped out in anticipation of his return.

The governor’s arrival in Port Harcourt marks a critical moment in the state’s tense political landscape, with his supporters eager to see how he will navigate relations with rivals and reassert control over state governance.
