The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has established a nine-member committee to mediate the ongoing political rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Naijaonpoint reports that the announcement was made on Wednesday in Port Harcourt through a statement personally signed by the Council Chairman, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, Eze Oha Apara IV of Apara Kingdom.
In his statement, Worlu-Wodo outlined the committee’s primary responsibility: to engage key stakeholders and propose sustainable solutions aimed at restoring peace and stability to Rivers State.
The committee is chaired by His Majesty (Dr.) Suanu T. Y. Baridam, while His Majesty Eze Barr Nwachukwu Nnam Obi serves as co-chairman. Other members of the committee include:

Barr Darlington Owiriwa has been appointed as the committee’s secretary.
In his statement, Eze Worlu-Wodo called on supporters of both Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, as well as members of the public and social media users, to exercise restraint in their comments and actions. He emphasised that the situation could be volatile and that inflammatory statements should be avoided.
“In view of the sensitive nature of the issues before the public, we appeal to all factions, social media enthusiasts, and citizens to moderate their comments. We further urge citizens to refrain from acts likely to breach the peace in the state,” Worlu-Wodo stated.
This intervention by the Rivers Traditional Rulers marks an important step in promoting dialogue and stability in the state amid the prolonged political disagreement between the two prominent leaders.
The council’s efforts aim to create a platform to resolve the crisis and restore peace to Rivers State, which has experienced escalating political tensions in recent months.
