Rotary tackles hunger at World Peace and Understanding Day Symposium 2025.

This year’s edition of Rotary International’s World Peace and Understanding Day will hold on Wednesday, February 26th in Lagos.

According to the Rotary club of Lagos, the event would be commemorated with a symposium focusing on the critical need to end hunger, hence the theme” Peace Through Partnerships: Ending Hunger Together”.

The day’s symposium, holding at 10am at the Henry Fajemirokun Hall of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lagos would have the Executive Director, Greenport Impact Cluster Nigeria Limited – Mrs Edobong Akpabio – as Keynote Speaker.

Greenport is a major indigenous player in Nigeria’s Agric sector.

There will also be Farmer Samson Ogbole – Founder, Soiless Farm Lab ( SFarmlab), Ogun State and Dr Olanrewaju Lateef Yusuf, Lecturer, Department of Religion and Peace, Lagos State University as Panel discussants.

Farmer Ogbole is a true pioneer in the of agriculture. He is a visionary leader who is using technology to revolutionize the way food is grown. His work at Eupepsia Place Limited (Soiless Farm Lab) is groundbreaking, and has the potential to transform the global food system.

Reiterating the importance of the event, the President, Rotary Club of Lagos, Rotarian Adetunji Lamidi stated inter-alia: “February is Rotary International’s Peace Building and Conflict Prevention month. So, the month and the symposium of February 26th in Lagos remind us of the critical role we play in promoting peace and understanding and conflict resolution in our communities and around the world”.

He added:”Through our peace building initiatives, we support projects and programmes that foster dialogue, reconciliation and economic development, ultimately helping to create a more just and peaceful world for all”.

Also stressing the importance of the Symposium, the Chairperson of Rotary Club’s World Peace and Understanding Day- Rotarian Honourable Toki Mabogunje – said the event was to underscore the urgent need for collaboration in combating humanity’s most pressing challenge: hunger.

She added that Rotary International remained committed to making a difference in world peace and understanding, adding that the global organization is also resolute about ending hunger so as to promote inclusion by all and sundry in furtherance of the quest for global peace.

Also canvassing support by all and sundry for the laudable ideals, Rotarian Mabogunje, former President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry also stated: “Every step we take together takes us to a greater future. Let’s all share the goal of ending hunger and promoting peace for a better tomorrow. Let’s take a stand for peace together. Let’s take a stand against hunger”.

The symposium will be moderated by Ehi Braimah, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Lagos and Chair, Public Image Committee of Rotary International District 9112.

The event will be graced by thought leaders, change makers and passionate advocates of peace, conflict resolution and food- for- all within Rotary, the business community and beyond.
