If you’ve been waiting for a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold model to launch, you’re out of luck, as Samsung has no plans to make one. This is something that the company confirmed to SisaJournal following the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
Samsung will not release a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold model, at least not anytime soon
Samsung flat-out said it, actually. Here’s a direct quote: “Rather than thinking of [Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition] as a premium product, it’s a product released to expand your options. You can choose according to your taste. As of now, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price”.
Those are not great news for those of you who wanted a cheaper book-style foldable from Samsung. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced at $1,899, while this ‘Special Edition’ variant costs about $300 more.
It is worth noting that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is not even available in most markets. It launched in Korea, and it’s expected to arrive to China too. That’s about it, though. The vast majority of you probably won’t even be able to buy it.
The Galaxy Z Fold SE name has been thrown around a ton of times thus far. That was the expected name for a budget book-style foldable from Samsung. It turns out those were just wild rumors, though Samsung probably considered it at some point.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition represents a move in the right direction
The good news is… the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition probably means that Samsung learned its lesson. It has to keep up with the competitors from China, as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 seems quite dated at this point. Not only from the point of design but the camera setup too.
That device is considerably thicker and heavier than a number of competitors from China. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition closes that gap a bit. Let’s hope that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be a considerable bump compared to its predecessor.
