Samsung is gradually releasing its new One UI 5.0 beta update to more users. The company first rolled out the beta update to select users in Germany, followed by South Korea. Samsung has now made the One UI 5.0 beta update available for users in the US. The update is currently available only for Samsung Galaxy S22 series users in the three markets.

The new One UI stable update, which will be based on Android 13, is set to roll out to eligible devices later this year. Samsung is expected to officially unveil the new One UI 5.0 features at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the One UI 5.0 beta update rollout details, new features, etc.

Samsung One UI 5.0 Beta Now Available in the US

Samsung has released the One UI 5.0 beta update for Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra users in the US ahead of the launch. The new One UI update patch log reveals the new features. A 9to5Google report, which has the changelog details, revealed that the update on their S22 Ultra was available only after they insert a T-Mobile SIM card. It is unknown if the update is available for every carrier in the US.

The changelog reveals that the OneUI update will allow users to set a custom theme and colour palette based on the wallpaper. They can also combine several widgets of the same size and stack them on top of one another, something that is similar to iOS 15.

One UI 5.0 also brings more control for notifications. Users can filter out apps that often send notifications by setting permissions. Users also have separate control over whether apps can show pop-up notifications, app icon badges, and notifications on the Lock screen.

For a more personalised experience, One UI 5.0 will allow users to set a different language for each app based on compatibility. The preferred language for each app can be adjusted in Settings.

After iOS, One UI also brings Optical Character Recognition (OCR). When text appears in an image in Gallery, Camera, or other apps, actions will be recommended based on the text. For example, if you take a picture of a sign with a phone number or web address on it, you can tap to call the number or visit the site. Samsung has also updated its DeX along with Bixby Routines. More details about the same can be checked here.
