Samsung could launch a rollable phone in 2025, with a massive, flexible display, suggests a new report. The smartphone’s display could be pulled or unwound to form a 12.4-inch tablet.

Samsung rollable display phone to launch in 2025?

Samsung developed an ultra-flexible display a few years ago. Rumors about the company developing a smartphone with a rollable display started last year. Now, a report claims the South Korean company could launch a device with its ultra-flexible screen in 2025.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G was launched more than five years ago in February 2019. Needless to say, Apple is yet to catch up to Samsung in the foldable display department.

If the report is true, Samsung could be trying to take a giant leap with a display that can be rolled inside a chassis. It is important to note that Samsung hasn’t made any official announcement.

There have been no leaks about the housing or the display technology that Samsung may be using. Nonetheless, if the launch is indeed less than a year away, we should start getting more leaks about the Samsung rollable display phone.

How would a rollable Samsung phone look?

Samsung’s current flagship foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, opens up like a book. In other words, the smartphone has a single fold in the center.

The recently launched Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is the world’s first, commercially-available, tri-fold smartphone. When unfolded, the tri-fold display measures 10.2 inches.

Samsung rollable phone will reportedly have a 12.4-inch rollable screen. Incidentally, Samsung did showcase such a display during this year’s SID Display Week event.

Samsung claimed the rollable OLED screen, called Rollable Flex, is meant for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. The OLED panel can be rolled to fit inside a much smaller space. The actual rolled-up diameter isn’t known. However, the display can be rolled open from 49mm to 254.4mm in size.

Packing a rollable display, the rumored Samsung phone won’t need two separate screens or a centrally-located hinge. The report also claims this smartphone would have an under-display camera, just like the Galaxy Fold series foldable smartphones have had since the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
